The 338th Exhibition Semitransparent Design: Boring/Bored
October 03, 2014 - October 28, 2014
Personal and business use of social networking services like Facebook, Twitter, and Line has exploded in recent years. It is no longer uncommon to see people peering into smartphones and tablets while walking around or riding the train. Now that you can count on being able to fill any spare moment on the Internet, doesn't it seem like a long time since you've been utterly bored?
At the ginza graphic gallery this October, Semitransparent Design will mount an exhibition given the somewhat confrontational title of Boring/ Bored. Masters of visuals, programming, and network technology, and active across media domains including the web, installations, photography, and moving images, Semitransparent Design has in the last few years also built on this foundation to begin staking out a unique position in the world of graphic design.
In presenting past works done across a variety of media, the exhibition may at first appear something of an archival exhibit, but these works do not appear in forms previously shown. The plan, that is, is that they are to be shown in different media than before. In momentarily wiping away the issue of rapidly changing network environments and the attendant transformation of communication methods, this exhibition seeks a more bird's-eye view.

This team of designers, device developers, and programmers has been active since 2003. Since its earliest days, the team has produced many web-based ads grounded in an original deign methodology linking the real and the networked worlds. The team has received numerous domestic and international awards from bodies such as the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the CLIO Awards, One Show, the LIAA (London International Advertising Awards), the New York ADC, and D&AD.
