Summing up a career of more than 40 years of Bruno Oldani Design (and still going strong!) is a complex task. For several reasons. Graphic design to me is more than posters. In German it's called "Gebrauchsgrafik" or "graphics for use" , and that's really what this exhibition is about. Another important aspect is that Norway has no strong tradition for neither making, nor using posters. This means that most posters produced for the Norwegian market (which is actually not so many considering this is a 40-year-old design studio) are smaller than 70~100 cm. It was a natural thing for me to do, not only to focus on the posters, but to include the full range of "Gebrauchsgrafik" I've made during these years, including everything from annual reports to wine labels and skis. The exhibition is arranged as a systematic chaos of designed bric-a-brac and printed graphics, just like my own surroundings and my own inspiration. "I did it my way!" is therefore an honest and suitable title, both for the exhibition itself, and the work shown. Thanks for letting me do it my way. Bruno Oldani
