Hiroshi Sugimoto, the art photographer, designer, sculptor, architect and aspiring mathematician, has now taken on clothing -- to strip away and expose its naked truths. From Lucy, the three-million-year-old hominid, to a mélange of designs by modern-day fashion icons, "Hiroshi Sugimoto: From naked to clothed" (at the Hara Museum in Tokyo until July 1) reveals the why's of dressing. Living Art at the Shunkaen Bonsai Museum

A short walk from Mizue Station through the nondescript streets of Edogawa-ku delivers you to the gate of a hard-to-find oasis -- the Shunkaen Bonsai Museum. The museum feels nothing like a museum, but more like a home nestled in a typical east Tokyo neighborhood. 'Tis the Season: Mika Ninagawa's Sublimely Subdued Sakura Shots

Sakura season is over in Tokyo, though as this article goes to press the blossom front continues to move north through Tohoku. In its wake, however, the capital boasts no dearth of cherry-themed art exhibitions these days. One of the most lyrical is PLANT A TREE, a series of color images of cherry trees in full bloom along Tokyo's Meguro River, captured by photographer Mika Ninagawa in the spring of 2010. more...
