DNP Opens New Flexible Packaging Plant in Vietnam

Strengthens South East Asian Packaging Operations

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) will open a new plant in Vietnam for the manufacture of flexible packaging materials, such as film pouches and tubes for daily necessities and foodstuffs. The new plant will come on line in April 2013.

[Background to Opening of New Plant]

DNP commenced packaging manufacture and sales in 1972, when it established PT DNP Indonesia (DNP Indonesia), in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, as a joint venture with a local company. DNP Indonesia supplies high quality, cost competitive products that capitalize on the package manufacturing technology and know how developed by the company to the countries around the world, particularly those in South East Asia, at the same time as meticulously responding to local needs. In particular, in the area of valued added flexible packaging materials, such as those with barrier features, DNP has focused on exports to neighboring and nearby nations, and has become a representative South East Asian packaging maker.

Vietnam has a population of 87 million with a high proportion of young people, and an economy that continues to boast high economic growth of 5 - 6 percent per annum. For that reason, numerous companies have chosen Vietnam as the location for their Indochina logistics bases, and the country is expected to enjoy smooth market growth in the future. DNP Indonesia has so far, supplied global companies that deploy their manufacturing base in Vietnam with products made in Indonesia, but has recently received requests for shorter lead times and for risk dispersal by increasing the number of production bases. In answer to these requests, DNP and DNP Indonesia have, in addition to creating a new company in Binh Duong province in the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, have also made the decision to establish a new flexible packaging plant. The new company will endeavor to expand the packaging business in South East Asia while maintaining cooperation with DNP Indonesia.

[Overview of the New Plant]

Apart from the production of sachets - small packages for single use quantities - the new plant will manufacture products such as self-standing pouches, laminated tube bodies for toothpaste and cosmetics. The products will be supplied to multinational, Japanese and local companies in Indochina and nearby states. And in addition to achieving reduced eco-burdens including slimming down the thickness of the film used while maintaining superior functionality, the new plant will also endeavor to develop packaging that fits the culture and lifestyle of each nation in Indochina, beginning with Vietnam.
