DNP SP-TSM Service Acquires Visa and MasterCard Brand Certification

Also Acquires PCI DSS Certification

 

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd (DNP) is pleased to announce the acquisition of brand certification by Visa and MasterCard, which have developed a reputation for sophisticated security technology and management system of Service Provider-Trusted Service Manager (SP-TSM) service At the same time, and in yet another Japanese domestic first for the Company, DNP has also been certified by Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), the international credit card industry security standard.

Since September 2012, DNP has operated a service for adding functions, such as credit cards, membership IDs and e-money, to Osaifu-keitai (i.e. mobile wallet phone) and NFC compatible smart phones, via the worldwide web, and has become the first domestic Japanese company to acquire certification as a SP-TSM for these three standards.

Looking ahead, in addition to current  smart card services, DNP will also actively propose Visa payWave and MasterCard® PayPassTM, the smart phone based contactless IC settlement services offered by Visa and MasterCard, respectively.

[Visa and MasterCard Brand Certification]

In order to acquire Visa and MasterCard brand certification for SP-TSM services, it is necessary to fulfill certain requirements, including establishing and maintaining a safe network, developing programs to protect and manage cardholder data, introducing strong access control methods, performing regular network monitoring and testing, and developing information security policies. Regular operating procedure tests and compliance with security audits are also required.

[PCI DSS Certification]

PCI DSS is an industry security standard jointly developed by global payment brand companies, such as Visa, MasterCard and JCB with the objective of protecting cardholder data, and achieving safe transactions for card issuers and merchants. With the protection of cardholders as its foremost objective, this standard establishes concrete management methods and operational policies in order to satisfy specific security standards.

[SP-TSM Services]

SP-TSM services add functions, such as credit cards, membership IDs and e-money, to smart phones via the worldwide web in a secured manner, on behalf of credit card issuers. The following functions are offered.

  1. Data generation functions for personal data, such as credit card numbers, and member IDs, for smart phones.
  2. The development and distribution of applications targeting smart phones, and of IC applications stored in Universal Integrated Circuit Cards (UICC) that record subscriber identity information, and which are mounted on smart phones.
  3. The management and personalization of optimized personal information on a client or user basis, and the operation of remote personalization systems.  
  4. The printing and postal forwarding, or e-mail distribution, of the necessary information to provide service guidance for users and to launch those services.

DNP provides total support for service providers, including consulting services related to the adoption of smart phone based member services, sales promotion, and the provision of communication tools.

The Company aims for sales of 1.0 billion yen over the next five years from the provision of this service to the financial, logistics and retail industries.
