DNP Launches Layered Laser Perforated Pouch
Makes zippered pouches easier to open and close
Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) has developed a zippered and layered laser perforated pouch that facilitates easier opening and closing of pouches, by utilizing a laser perforation on the opening, and has launched a full scale sales program.
Zippered pouches can be repeatedly resealed following the original opening allowing for storage. Based on this convenience, such pouches are employed in a variety of uses, including candies, foods and pharmaceuticals. Challenges do exist, however, such as the films on either side of the opening sticking together, making it difficult to reopen. In particular, needs exist to make the opening easier to grip, especially for seniors whose finger tips easily slip, making a burden out of the delicate task of opening such pouches. DNP is actively engaged in the promotion of Universal Design that offers ease of use to many people, and has risen to the challenge of answering these needs, by developing a layered laser perforated pouch that makes it easier to open zippered pouches.
The layered laser perforated pouch has been designed so that on the initial unsealing following purchase, the film to the front of the pouch forms a long-thin ellipsis, while the film on the rear perforates in a straight line. To date, zippered pouches were designed so that both the front and rear films used in the pouch both perforated along a straight line. By creating a layer between them, however, it is now easier to grip them with the fingertips, making it easier to reopen the pouch. On this occasion, DNP has not only successfully selected the optimum film, but has also designed an easy to open layered format that can be manufactured on a stable basis, as well as creating the laser perforation technology. It should also be noted that DNP has already acquired the relevant patents for this invention.
It is possible to offer the layered laser perforated pouch in a variety of formats, and for numerous uses. Mindful of the protection of the contents, and the possibility of tearing in the film, DNP has used PET in the surface materials, and aluminum foil in the barrier layer.
