Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd. (DNP) has commenced marketing "ACCUWAVE® Starter-kit", a merchandize management system that uses IC-tags and can be adopted immediately. The kit has a simple set-up; including in-built IC tag labels, a label printer capable of encoding information for the IC tags, a handy-type reader and merchandize management software, and can be used for many uses, no matter how large or small.
Priced at 90,000 yen per set, DNP plans to commence marketing the system from March 2004, and aims for sales of 100 million yen per year, including supplies. Using the system will allow for the relatively easy administration of loading and unloading, inventory management and inventory control of such items as merchandize, materials, and perishables.

"ACCUWAVE® Starter-kit" Components

1. In-built IC tag labels
   150 card-sized IC tags (54x86 mm), with an attached 150 mini-card size IC tags (35x18 mm). Mounted with Philips I-Code SLI (13.56 MHZ) IC chips. The reading-range is approximately seven to eight cm, when using the attached handy-type reader-writer.
2. Mini label printer
   Capable of printing the surface of both the card-sized and mini-card size in-built IC tag labels, at the same time as performing the encoding of the IC tag section. The encoded data is automatically registered in the attached merchandize management software.
3. Handy-type reader-writer
   An IC tag reader-writer with an added bar-code reading function. Maintains loading, unloading, inventory clearance and refund modes, and it is possible to read-off the IC tag data after selecting one of these modes, and registering the read-off result in the attached merchandize administration software.
4. Merchandize Management Software
   (Operating Environment; Windows®2000, XP)
   Comes with such functions as IC tag registration, loading administration, unloading administration, inventory list display, refund processing, printer control (printing, IC tag encoding)

DNP has marketed the "ACCUWAVE® Study-kit" since 2001, selling approximately 100 kits to SI companies looking for IC tag based solutions, along with makers and distributors looking to introduce IC tags into such operations as in-house inventory management.
The newly marketed "ACCUWAVE® Starter-kit" is the second in the series of IC tags from DNP, and is aimed at the further spread and promotion of IC tags, by making it easier to adopt more fully-fledged IC tag systems.
