The 117th Exhibition Transition of Modern Typography-2 American Typography 1950s-'60s February 6-27 ,1996

The 1950's and 60's were a time of great prosperity in the U.S. and a time when American typography experienced its golden age. In response to a surge in consumer demand, advertising activities flourished and a great many magazines with a high visual content such as Playboy, McCall, Harper's Bazaar, Show, and Eros were published. Under excellent art directors, american typography has remained unfettered, focusing at one time on illustration and at another on images. The works of this exhibition, which still have the ability to excite even after all these years, had a great impact on the Japanese design.
