The 134th Exhibition '97 Tokyo Art Directors Club July 2 - 29 ,1997

The Grand Prix this year went to TVCF, the Nike's international strategy. With overwhelming image technology and scale, they took the Japanese domestic CF images by a storm and won. Seeing it at the exhibition again brought back the surprise and excitement I felt at home. The highest members award went to Toyota for their newspaper ad (a series), the Echo Project. When I think about the enthusiasm of the design students and the young creators that visited the exhibition, I thought that such exhibitions, along with the publication of yearbooks, raises the quality of Japanese graphic communications and rouses the power of the next generation. While it is a job that calls for timeliness, it makes me freshly feel the meaning of a retrospective exhibition.
