The 158th Exhibition 1999 Tokyo Art Directors Club July 2(Fri.) - 28(Wed.),1999

At the ADC exhibition this year, power, the foundation of graphic design, blossomed in the stagnation of the economy. As can be seen in the comprehensive design of the Grand Prix award winner, United Arrows, the quiet creativity, without becoming gaudy or too focussed on materials, was moving. Ad campaigns shot abroad have become few and far between but the ADC exhibition as a whole has hardly been left wanting. Ads segmented to accurately convey a corporation or product as a graphic message to a target audience unearthed graphic ideas. Graphic communication in this sluggish economy, as opposed to the graphic communication that flowered in the period of high economic growth, may gradually become more deeply affected. Economic action that can be continued captivates people. Ongoing effective communication is called for. Emphasis is shifting from how to communicate to how to have what is communicated remembered.
