The 159th Exhibition Kijuro Yahagi August 5(Thur.) - 28(Sat.),1999

Taking the simple, everyday act of looking at something, if we start to get into how we are able to see, the elusive riddle and abyss of the visual world that is difficult to grasp come to the fore. Even if I can't, however, I try to unravel its mysteries and let myself go into each new area of interest that arises. I was surprised to learn that not only do our retinas continually seek new images but that grasping something can never limited to just that one thing. It comes from the accumulation of quivers or small movements of the eyeball. Grasping something visually, strictly speaking, involves the accumulation of images visually remembered to grasp the entire image. What a stimulating world this involves!
