The 219th Exhibition The Work of Barnbrook Design : Friendly Fire August 5(Thur.) - 28(Sat.),2004

A career in design is not a series of organized events in a logical progression; it is series of chance creative moments with no predefined end. How strange then to have a retrospective, a point at which to look back and see if there is any order or logic to the past years. Thankfully ggg and ddd made something that could have been very painful, very easy, they created order out of the chaos and supported us by fully displaying our more contentious political work. I am eternally grateful to the people from the galleries and DNP for their support. A retrospective looks at the past, but that is only worthwhile if we make it affect the future, so the most important messages that I hope came from our exhibition are firstly that designers have a duty to make the world a better place with their work, not an uglier one. Secondly that you should always be true to yourself, it does make a difference that you say what you truly think in your work. Design does have a valid role for change in society.
