The 230th Exhibition 2005 Tokyo Art Directors Club July 4(Mon.) - 30(Sat.),2005

One of the features of the Tokyo Directors' Club is that it values the individuality of creators. Award-winning works, therefore, tend to be works in which the artist's individuality stands out. With the 2005 award winners, there was Kazunari Hattori's "Kewpie Half" and Chie Morimoto's GIONGO GITAIGO JISHO. The ADC Grand Prize, however, was pure advertising. It was the mass marketed, convenience store, Japanese green tea, Suntory's "lemon." Rather than showing the creator's individuality, this was carefully planned. We can feel the calculated professional work of an advertising team. The high quality talented expression re-sults from the collaboration of Kazufumi Nagai, Shinya Nakajima and Yoshihiko Ueda. Amid the eddy of vulgar, noisy information, "lemon" became a hit and flew off convenience store shelves. Tokyo ADC chose maturity this year.
