The 235th Exhibition Swiss Poster Art: 100 Years of Creation December 2(Fri.) - 22(Thur.),2005

Making my way through the door of the ginza graphic gallery, I had the strange feeling of being reunited, not with posters, but friends I had known for a long time, in the heart of a city whose reality was sometimes astonishing to a visitor who had come from afar. I rediscovered the posters shining so beautifully and brilliantly in a very elegant atmosphere. I was also grateful that other people too had acknowledged, loved, understood, taken care of and magnificently presented them. Thanks to the power of image, that old universal language, the posters were appreciated by a highly informed and discerning public. Bonds are formed and an exchange takes place. Back in their drawers in Geneva, won't these posters reproach me for locking them up in silence after they had shone so brightly in Tokyo? I will console them by saying that unless conserved in the dark their beauty would not last. Perhaps they will understand this while they dream of their glory highlighted in Ginza.
Jean-Charles Giroud, Deputy Director of the Bibliothèque publique et universitaire de Genève
