The 236th Exhibition Yusaku Kamekura 1915-1997: A Leading Pioneer in the World of Japanese Design January 11(Wed.) - 31(Tue.),2006

The career of Yusaku Kamekura, the leading Japanese graphic designer who created the posters for the Tokyo Olympics and the Osaka Expo, runs alongside the history of design in Japan. Active at Nihon-Kobo, the center of photography and design in prewar Japan, he gained wide acclaim internationally for this many posters and logo marks after the war in addition to helping to found the Japan Advertising Artists Club (JAAC) and the Japan Graphic Designers Association (JAGDA). He continues to play a central role in the world of Japanese design. This exhibition, with 170 works including prewar works shown for the first time, was a full-scale retrospective following the career of Yusaku Kamekura.
