DNP to Market On-Demand Book Service with MaruzenJunkudo Bookstores and honto.jp
Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) will market an on-demand book service for hard-to-find books, in units as small as single orders for books yet to be reprinted, or books out-of-print. The new service will commence July 1, and will be marketed through the Ikebukuro, Tokyo main outlet of JUNKUDO, part of MaruzenJunkudo Bookstores Co., Ltd. (MaruzenJunkudo Bookstores), a DNP Group company, and honto.jp, the DNP internet-based mail order service that provides books in both hard copy and e-book formats.
DNP has been involved in the on-demand book business since March 2001, when the Company leveraged digital data of published materials to launch a service specializing in on-demand books that manufactures, sells and delivers hard-to-find books, in units as small as single orders. This service has been offered as an internet-based book store on Rakuten Ichiba since January 2014. DNP manufactures high quality on-demand books that showcase the Company's accomplishments as a printing company, and also offers deluxe and color editions. In this latest development, in addition to services via Rakuten Ichiba, the on-demand book service for hard-to-find books will also be offered via bricks and mortar bookshops, as well as the honto.jp site with a membership in excess of 2.8 million users as of June, 2015. As a result, DNP will be in a position to offer consumers more opportunities to come into contact with otherwise hard-to-find books. And through these efforts, the Company also seeks to ascertain and test on-demand books needs and sales trends, along with the synergy effects of net-based and bricks and mortar store-based sales, and plans to expand services on Rakuten Ichiba, DNP Group bookstores, and via honto.jp.

At present, some 170 titles are offered in an on-demand format by Impress R&D via honto.jp, and it is planned to expand the line-up to cover the entire on-demand Impress R&D catalogue with an outstanding 2,800 titles as of June 2015, including digital-first format e-books.
[Forward Looking Events]
In cooperation with publishing companies, DNP will enhance the on-demand line up to include various genres, such as books, photo collections and comic books. Other service enhancements include expanding the number of DNP group bookstore outlets that market on-demand books, and the Company aims for sales of 200 million yen by FY 2019.
