DNP Develops Smart Phone Application Facilitating Low-Cost Bank Account Creation Service with Just Short Lead-Time
Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) is pleased to announce the development of an application targeting smart phones that standardizes the necessary basic functions for the creation of bank accounts to reduce lead time and reduce costs. The newly developed application will be available from March 31.
Numerous banks are considering the introduction of services for the mobile account creation in order to promote bank accounts among the younger generation that frequently use smart phones. Since February 2014, DNP has offered an application for the forwarding of bank account application data, and image data of ID cards such as driving licenses. The application has been adopted by high street banks as well as regional banks in Japan. In this latest development, the Company has leveraged the know-how accumulated via this experience, and by standardizing application functions, has developed an application that reduces development time and cost. DNP offers this new application in a customized format, such as aligning application screen color with the corporate color of each financial institution.
The newly developed account creation application makes it possible to apply for a bank account, merely by forwarding image data, such as driving licenses and ID card images photographed with a smart phone, along with application data, such as name and address, to the server. Consumers will enjoy improved convenience due to the shorter lead time from application to the establishment of an account, while for banks this will lead to the capture of new accounts.
Application features are as follows:
- By standardizing basic functions it is now possible to adopt the service with shorter lead times and at lower costs than had been previously possible. It has also been made possible to reduce the costs of the necessary application operation verification when upgrading the smart phone operating system.
- The application uses the OCR cloud-based driving license optical character reader from Toshiba Solutions Corporation. Driving license images photographed with smart phones are read off by OCR, and information such as name, data of birth and address of the applicant are automatically generated as text data reducing input time and the chance of mistakes.
- By forwarding data via SSL communication is has been possible to boost safety.
- Apart from being able to set screen color to match the corporate colors of a given bank, it is also possible for the adopting bank to independently set their own company and/or service logos, consent forms and instructions, along with branch search menus.
DNP will expand the account creation application-related business, aiming for sales of 400 million yen over the 3-year period to FY 2017.
