DNP to Distribute Shopping Support Application
Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) will distribute an application designed for the simple creation of shopping lists, and more efficient store visits.
Distribution will commence on July 15, and allows users with smart phones to draw up shopping lists while checking the contents of their kitchen cupboards and refrigerators.
This new application is a companion application to the DNP Household Accounts application that has passed the 1.7 million mark for downloads, and using the two applications in combination will work to boost shopping convenience. Free downloads are available for iPhone and Android driven terminals.
[Shopping Support Application]
The new application is a tool to support smooth shopping, by allowing users to draw up shopping lists while checking the contents of their kitchen cupboards and refrigerators. According to a questionnaire conducted by DNP at retail outlets, 70% of women who shop on a daily basis check their cupboards and refrigerators before going to the store or supermarket. At the same time, some 40% of respondents said that they frequently purchased items that were already in stock at home, or forget what they were going to buy. In order to supporting frequent shoppers and help overcome shopping challenges, DNP has developed the new application that allows consumers to check the contents of their kitchen cupboards and refrigerators while at the store.
1, Reduces Unnecessary Purchases
Stock held at home in the cupboard and refrigerator can be input on smart phones under an in-stock list, while those items the consumer plans to purchase can be input under shopping list. And by using this new application in combination with the DNP Household Accounts application it is possible to take shopping histories listed in the latter, and collectively register them as in-stock in the new application, boosting shopping convenience as a result. Users can then concentrate on the shopping list, draw up a list of the goods they need to buy, and check these off while shopping at the store or supermarket. The following day, checked items are automatically transferred from the shopping list to the in-stock list, which can then be used as the basis for future shopping trips.
2, Menu Proposals
The new application also proposes recipes that can be made in a short time using the foods on the in-stock list. These recipes are selected from among a list of several thousand such meal ideas listed on the website. For further information please visit, http://receipi.jp/arukau_memo/. Information is currently offered in Japanese only. It is possible to take the list of ingredients for such menu proposals and collectively register them on the shopping list.
3, Extraction and Analysis
The new application also facilitates the use of the shopping history accumulated in the Household Accounts application to extract and analyze items frequently purchased by users, and display food and daily necessity prompts. And by photographing the contents of cupboards and refrigerators along with images of expendable goods, it becomes possible to confirm what is on the in-stock list and the shopping list at a glance.
4, Categorization and Alarms
The contents of the in-stock list and the shopping list can be automatically categorized into foods, daily necessities and others, and color coded. Color coding can also be performed manually by the user. And by sorting on a color basis, it becomes possible to confirm items on a counter-by-counter basis, making for smoother shopping at the store or supermarket. It is also possible to register sales campaign days and times, and inform the user via an alarm on their smart phone, making it easier for them to shop cheaply.
[Forward Looking Developments]
DNP will analyze the pre-shopping information obtained from the new application, and the post-shopping information acquired from the Household Accounts application to achieve recycling-oriented communications1 with consumers. The Company will offer this application to a broad set of companies as marketing information, and ads targeting consumers or as a point of contact to promote store visits. DNP aims for sales of 1.5 billion yen by 2017.
