DNP Expands O2O Cloud Platform Functions
Facilitates check-in functions and multilingual applications
Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) has expanded the cloud platform that supports Online-to-Offline (O2O) services. Following this move, it is now possible for companies to add a check-in functions that can be used to offer discounts or product coupons in line with the frequency of store visits by application users. At the same time, functions aimed at overseas visitors have also been augmented, and the cloud platform is now offered in a variety of languages, including English, Chinese, Korean, Hindi and Arabic.
Since November 2013, DNP has targeted retail outlets or companies looking to boost customer numbers by offering O2O services with a cloud platform that facilitate the creation of smart phone applications and the servers necessary for their operation through simple settings. This service makes it possible to adopt smart phone based O2O services with a relatively short lead time and at low cost, and has been adopted by numerous companies operating supermarkets, drug stores, restaurants and leisure facilities. In April 2014, the Company also added a function facilitating the distribution of internet-based flyers to applications, and in November of the same year further improved convenience by adding functions providing for linkage to loyalty points services and the ability to conduct web-based questionnaires.
In this latest development, the Company has added a check-in function that can be used to offer services in line with the frequency of store visits, and a function allowing for the creation of a multilingual application targeting overseas visitors, for which high level needs have been seen from retail outlets and companies.
Check in function
This function makes it possible to grant loyalty points, or offer discounts and product coupons in line with the frequency of store visits by the retail outlet application user. Users may also select the format by which retail outlet check-ins are confirmed. These include Global Positioning Services (GPS), automatic approaches using beacon position data, or the reading off of 2-dimensional bar codes. Bargain information or coupons are distributed when the check-in process is successfully completed,
It is possible to create applications in a variety of languages, including English, Chinese, Korean, Hindi and Arabic, with applications created on a language-by-language basis. The check-in function can be used to operate campaigns targeting not only long-term residents who use applications on a constant basis, but also inbound visitors who visit Japan for a short time only.

Looking ahead, DNP will offer this new service, along with related services, mainly to retailers and distributors, such as supermarkets and drug stores, and manufacturers operating directly-managed outlets, aiming for sales of 500 million yen in fiscal year 2016. The Company will also capitalize on the communication design knowledge and know-how developed over many years to flexibly respond to the needs of such operators.
