DNP Launches High Quality Multi-Lingual Sales Support Tool Production Service

Provides multi-lingual production platform as a cloud service

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) in conjunction with DNP Media Create Co., Ltd. (DMC), a DNP Group company engaged in the planning and production of commercial printing materials, and DNP Digitalcom Co., Ltd. (DDC), also a Group company engaged in the planning, production and development of websites, have launched a service, which performs high-quality multi-lingual translation services when creating websites, catalogues, pamphlets and POP.

The new service is based on a multi-lingual production platform that manages assets, such as the translation-related know-how accumulated to date, translation data and glossaries, while also successfully harnessing them for use with multi-lingual translations. The newly developed platform can handle more than 170 languages. In addition to the multi-lingual production support service, the three parties will also offer platform functions as a cloud service.

[Background]

In recent years, amid the expanded demand seen for inbound tourism services in line with the increase in overseas visitors to Japan, and advances in global business development by companies, there have also been increasing calls for high-quality translations, delivered in an efficient manner, to match the shift to multi-lingual websites, catalogues, pamphlets and POP.

From 1998, DNP has created a network of global printing companies, and has operated a service offering multi-lingual conversion, editing and printing of sales promotion materials in response to the globalization efforts at our client companies. DMC has offered a service for the translation, editing and design of various Japanese materials into multiple languages, while DDC has also offered a service for the conversion of Japanese websites into multiple languages in line with the globalization efforts of Japanese companies. The three companies will manage assets, such as the translation-related know-how accumulated to date, translation data and glossaries, and will employ multiple translators on a concurrent basis to create a platform capable of consistently outputting high-quality translations in an efficient manner. And in addition to a multi-lingual production support service offering an integrated service from the translation to creation of website and sales promotion materials, the partners will also offer the newly developed platform to companies as a cloud service that can handle more than 170 languages.

By forming links to product databases, including Content Management Systems (CMS) that manage product information listed in catalogues and sales promotion materials, the platform makes it possible to significantly reduce the lead-time to multi-lingual presentations from just Japanese alone.

In order to extract Japanese text from DTP data for printing uses, automatically reference past translation texts and glossaries, and perform automatic translation of the applicable portions, it has been made possible to reduce actual translation volume to the minimum levels.

As it is possible to confirm the progress status of multiple translators on the website management screen, this leads to the efficient management of production operations.

The new platform can handle in excess of 170 languages.

[Looking Ahead]

DNP, DMC and DDC will offer the new service and platform to companies operating businesses targeting overseas visitors to Japan, and companies with global business operations. The three companies aim for adoptions by 20 companies and sales, including those of related operations, of 400 million yen in FY 2016.
