DNP to Launches E-Contents Distribution Service for Maternity Facilities

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) will launch a service distributing e-magazines and e-books targeting expectant and nursing mothers at obstetrics and gynecology medical facilities. The new service, set to commence from August 2015, will be offered in a tie up with Hospital Net Inc. (Hospital Net), a company that provides tablet terminal services to maternity facilities.

[New Service]

DNP currently provides a service distributing e-magazines and e-books that match designated areas via free downloads of dedicated applications to smart phones and tablet terminals. These services have been adopted in spaces, such as the waiting areas of banks to help clients usefully employ waiting time, and to improve customer satisfaction.

From December 2014 to May 2015, DNP and Hospital Net conducted a field test and questionnaire regarding the new service targeting expectant and nursing mothers hospitalized at five obstetrics and gynecology medical facilities that had previously adopted the Hospital Net tablet terminal service. High download rates were found for features in childbirth and child-rearing based magazines selected for expectant and nursing mothers. Needs for article-by-article based micro-contents were also identified, along with high overall usage levels for the newly offered service. As a result, it has been decided to launch the new service on a full scale basis.

[Service Features]

The new service works by installing the service on a Hospital Net tablet terminal, and offering it to obstetrics and gynecology medical facilities. The service offers a line-up of 24 titles, including contents such as a popular child rearing magazine and magazine book (mook) from SHUFUNOTOMO Co., Ltd., manga, how-to titles and picture books for children. Those attending maternity facilities can use the new service free of charge. It is also possible to select reading material on an article-by-article basis, rather than having to download entire magazines or magazine books, which would entail extended download times and un-needed stress.

[Pricing and Forward Looking Developments]

Hospital Net will market tablet terminals installed with the new service to obstetrics and gynecology medical facilities throughout Japan. The new service will also be offered as an optional add on to those facilities that already use the Hospital Net tablet terminal service. DNP aims for adoption by 300 facilities in FY 2018.

It is also planned to load a lineup of other popular e-magazine contents on the Hospital Net tablet terminal service, targeting waiting rooms at other medical facilities, such as those offering one-stop total medical check-ups and dentists.
