DNP and DNP Media Create Develop Travel Aid Application
In initial offering will distribute tourist information for Hachinohe
Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) and DNP Media Create Co., Ltd (DMC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of DNP engaged in the planning and production of commercial printing and events, have jointly developed a travel aid application. In addition to offering in depth information that only locals would know about scenic spots, attractions and souvenirs, this service will also propose detours from present locations for those on excursions, and the opportunity for off the beaten track-type experiences. The new service will be distributed from June 3, and the initial offering will provide Japanese-language based tourist information about Hachinohe in Aomori prefecture.

Many municipalities throughout Japan are putting efforts into developing tourism, as a way to rejuvenate the local economy. This includes attempts to draw in tourists by promoting local tourist spots and souvenirs, and there is a need to promote local attractions within a limited budget. In answer to these needs DMC has developed an application offering in depth information that only locals would know about scenic spots, attractions and souvenirs. This application also offers proposals for detours from that were not part of the original travel plan. And by offering the opportunity for the off the beaten track-type experiences, aims to provide travelers with excitement, and contribute to the development of a fan-base for particular regions throughout Japan.
How to use the Application
By selecting such topics as destinations, daily schedules, delicious foods, or history and culture, the application displays a recommended excursion route. When the desired route is selected, a travel plan is automatically prepared. It is possible to share the excursion plan with a companion, and by clicking on the screen-based links, it is also possible to access the travel company website, and reserve accommodation and transportation facilities.
When the application is launched, a message saying "would you like to go on a detour?" appears on the screen, and a GPS function is used to display information leading travelers off the beaten track to local tourist attractions.
The travel plan and information on tourist spots visited on such detours can be viewed as "travel memories." And it is possible to share thoughts posted during and after the trip about tourist spots with a companion.

Pricing and Future Developments
The application can be downloaded free of charge. Separate estimates shall be made for contents production.
Looking ahead, DNP and DMC will propose contents distribution for the new application to travel-based organizations and companies, such as local municipalities, transport facilities, travel agencies, and publishers, unrolling the new service to numerous regions on a sequential basis. The two partners will also enhance application functions, such as those providing links to mail order sites handling local souvenirs, as well as multilingual functions. Together we aim for sales of 1.0 billion yen over the 3-years to FY 2017.
