DNP Upgrades Multicard Scanner Software to Judge Authenticity of Individual Number Cards under the Social Security and Tax Number System

Improving operational efficiency for financial institutions, etc., by using official IDs such as Individual Number Cards and driver's licenses

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd (DNP) has upgraded its multicard scanner to make it possible to judge the authenticity of Individual Number Cards under the Social Security and Tax Number System. The latest version is scheduled to come into service from September, 2016, and will operate alongside similar functions offered for uses with official IDs, such as driving licenses and the Basic Resident Registration Card.

Background

DNP launched a multicard scanner in 2010 for judging the authenticity of official IDs that targeted companies and organizations that require personal identification confirmation when accepting applications for memberships or to open new accounts. The scanner has since been adopted by numerous financial institutions and local authorities.

The latest version adds a function for judging the authenticity of Individual Number Cards, which is expected to see expanded use in the future. Introducing the new scanner will help realize greater operational efficiency at the contact points for verifying personal IDs.

For companies that have previously adopted existing versions, software upgrades will allow for ongoing use without the need to purchase new hardware.

Looking Ahead

Rigorous personal ID and anti-leak security measures are necessary when private sector companies gather Individual Number Cards data from employees and clients. Apart from marketing this new product to companies and organizations that need to obtain such information, DNP will also offer software updates to companies that have previously adopted the multicard scanner, aiming for sales of approximately 1.5 billion yen over the next three years.

The company also plans to offer solutions for collection operations of Individual Number Cards that need to be linked to bank accounts. Operations at financial institutions are becoming more diversified and more rigorous, and DNP will also help such institutions achieve increased operational efficiencies at personal ID verification contact points.
