DNP Develops Next-Generation Decorative Panel

Enables seamless design

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) has developed an advanced next-generation decorative panel that will enable seamless design. The newly developed panel combines sophisticated design decorations, including wood grain and geometric patterns, with an optical performance that makes it possible to show displays and operating switches on an as needed basis. The next-generation decorative panel can be applied in spaces such as those seen in automobile interiors.

[Background]

As the interior of automobiles has become more multifunctional, we have recently seen an increase in the number of available displays, operating switches, and instruments. As a result, this has produced the problem of a loss of design features due to the complicated arrangement of such devices on the dashboard. Furthermore, as technology such as self-driving makes advances in the future, automobile interiors will morph into living spaces, and from the standpoint of comfort, more design features will be called for.

Against this background, DNP has developed a next-generation decorative panel that achieves pleasant spaces, and which usually maintains high fashion design features while also making it possible to show displays and operating switches as needed. By integrating decorative and display functions, it is now possible to realize a more advanced seamless design at the same time as providing a new concept of interior space.

[Next-Generation Decorative Panel Features]

The next-generation decorative panel developed on this occasion, combines the decorative film technology and know-how accumulated in the creation of housing decor and automobile interior materials with DNP’s proprietary optical technology. As a result, it is now possible to project vivid images on the decorative panel on an as needed basis, something which has been difficult to achieve to date. By rendering the said decorative panel with touch panel functions, it is now possible, for example, to operate in-car navigation devices or switches.

In addition to providing the newly developed next generational decorative panel to domestic and foreign automobile manufacturers, DNP will also expand prospective clients to the construction and domestic electrics industries, including such non-auto areas as housing and commercial facilities, aiming for sales of 5.0 billion yen per annum in 2025.
