DNP Launches a Rolling Curtain Shield to Prevent Misreading as a Result of UHF-Band IC Tag Radio Frequency Interference
Can be rolled up when not in use
Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd (DNP) in conjunction with Microwave Absorbers Inc. (Microwave Absorbers) is pleased to announce the launch of a Rolling Curtain-Type shield Compatible with UHF-Band RFID that prevents misreading by unrelated IC tags situated in the local of distribution or production sites where UHF-band IC tags (RFID) are used. The new product is an electric rolling screen that can be rolled up and stored when not in use, and can perform accurate IC tag read offs without hindering the flow of goods or people.
[New Product Development Background]
UHF-band IC tags have developed the reputation for being able to perform bulk read offs of numerous IC tags over a broad area, and their full scale spread is proceeding mainly in logistics applications. At the same time, however, as the communications distance can extend to several meters in some cases, there are many instances where unrelated IC tags are unintentionally read-off. In order to prevent such misreading, shield mesh and absorber panels are sometimes used as a barrier against microwaves, but when considering the flow of goods and people at distribution or production sites, there are limits to installation methods and locations. As a result, microwaves cannot be shielded out, and there are cases where it has not been possible to introduce UHF-band IC tags. In order to overcome these challenges, DNP and Microwave Absorbers have developed a rolling curtain-type radio wave barrier device that is compatible with UHF-band RFID, and which can be rolled up and stored when not in use, so as not to hinder the flow of products or people.
[Overview of Rolling Curtain-Type Shield Compatible with UHF-Band RFID]
By installing the new product, it is possible to restrict the reader-writer read off area, and perform read offs only from target IC tags, preventing misreading as a result. And as the shield can be automatically rewound and stored when not in use, there is no hindrance to goods or people.
The standard specification is 2600 X 3000mm with a winding speed of approximately 20cm per second, but size and winding speed can be customized to match individual site needs.
From 500,000 yen per single set. (Installation fees shall be levied separately).
DNP and Microwave Absorbers jointly aim for sales of 20 sets in fiscal year 2014. The new product is being marketed as a part of the Company's UHF-band IC tag system business, from which DNP aims for sales of 500 million yen by fiscal year 2016.
