DNP Adds J/Speedy Personalization function to SP-TSM Service for NFC-Compatible Smart Phone
Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) is pleased to announce the addition of a J/Speedy personalization function to Service Provider-Trusted Service Manager (SP-TSM) service for Near Field Communication (NFC1)-compatible smart phones and Osaifu-Keitai® (mobile phones with embedded contactless IC chips).
This latest development constitutes a global first for DNP, in that it allows the Company to provide SP-TSM services for the personalization of three contactless IC card payment services - Visa payWave, MasterCard® PayPassTM and JCB J/Speedy.
1: NFC (Near Field Communication): An international standard for short-range wireless communication technologies
JCB J/Speedy is a JCB contactless payment service facilitating timely payments merely by passing a card or smart phone over a settlement terminal located at retail outlets. The service conforms to international standards, making it possible to cut terminal development and adoption costs and reduce lead time. As a result, JCB J/Speedy is expected to penetrate markets, mainly in the Asian region.
DNP SP-TSM services have also been utilized in J/Speedy operational tests involving mobile terminals from October implemented by JCB.
[DNP SP-TSM Services]
DNP SP-TSM services facilitate the remote personalization of mobile devices, such as smart phones and Osaifu-Keitai® with credit card, member ID and e-money functions, in place of the service provider. IC card personalization data generated based on personal information, such as account numbers, held by the service provider is forwarded over the internet in a safe manner, and written into Universal Integrated Circuit Cards (UICC2) mounted on mobile devices. Updates regarding how to use the additional functions are delivered to members via e-mail or the postal service.
This most recently developed SP-TSM service by DNP makes it possible to personalize
JCB J/Speedy in addition to Visa payWave and MasterCard® PayPassTM, thereby boosting credit card issuer selection options, and user convenience.
2: UICC: An IC card that records mobile phone subscriber identity information.
Start-up fees - From 20 million yen
Monthly operations fees - From 1.0 million yen
Metered billing - 100 yen per personalized unit
[DNP Efforts in the Area of Mobile Contactless IC Services]
DNP has capitalized on the know-how developed in the IC card business launched in the 1980s, and is forging ahead with industry-leading efforts related to mobile contactless IC services. As part of that endeavor, the Company has developed the world’s only remote personalization service that is compatible with three contactless communication formats - FeliCa®, ISO/IEC14443 TypeA, and TypeB. And by using high security and high quality systems uniquely developed and operated by DNP, the Company is in a position to provide a more finely tuned response that matches requests from the service provider, such as offering total domestic based personal information processing. It is also possible to offer multiple services in combination with SP-TSM services, including e-money and loyalty cards in a mobile wallet service format that can be managed via a wallet application.
Apart from offering SP-TSM services to domestic financial institutions along with distributors and retailers, DNP will also actively promote these services overseas, mainly in the Asian region. The Company will also provide total support to service providers, including support for the adoption of mobile device-based membership services, and the provision of promotional tools in order to revitalize communications with members. DNP aims for sales of 1.0 billion yen in the 3-year period to fiscal year 2016 from SP-TSM related services.
