DNP Launches Projection Mapping (Packaged Version)

Can be used with ease at retail outlets for new expression purposes

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) will launch a projection mapping system in the face of increased needs for image-based expression formats. The packaged version to be launched on February 4, 2015 will be sold in two types, one for projecting clothing images on mannequins, and another that projects images onto flat walls in stores.

[Development]

Projection mapping that boosts the visual effect by projecting images onto uneven surfaces and three-dimensional objects is in the news. For example, CG images can be projected onto surfaces to match the contours of buildings or objects at sightseeing spots and outdoor events. On an indoor-basis those CG can be projected onto three-dimensional objects, including products, mannequins and walls at retail outlets, where they can be used to create talking points, attract customers and increase the appeal of a company' s products or brand. And by combining real objects with CGs, it is also possible to provide a value-added quotient that goes beyond existing image or print expressions. For example, by making the interior structure of a product - that normally cannot be seen - visible.

And by packaging together the necessary functions for indoor projection mapping, DNP has developed a new system that can be easily used in a variety of uses.

[Product Outline]

  • Mannequin Type: Images projected over the front of a mannequin dressed in T-shirts and trousers can be delivered in two versions - full length, or half (upper) length according to the needs of the user. • Wall-Based Type: Panels in the form of 3D reliefs, including products, are hung on walls and images projected onto the panels or directly onto the wall. The panel, projector and the image playback device are sold in a set. Images of up to 80 inches in size, and 3D images of approximately two minutes in length can be produced.
