DNP Adds Prepaid Card Functions to o2o Support Application Service

Expands function line up

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) has added a function facilitating balance checking for prepaid cards to pre-existing Online-to-Offline (O2O) sales promotion application services targeting smartphones.

[Background]

Since November 2013 DNP has offered retail outlets or companies looking to boost customer visits to real stores via o2o services a cloud based function offering simple settings for smartphones. This service facilitates the addition of o2o services to smartphones in a relatively short time and at low cost, and as a result, has been adopted by companies operating supermarkets, drug stores, restaurants and leisure facilities. DNP has continued to expand functionality, and in April 2014 added a function for transmitting e-flyers to applications, and in November 2014 followed this up with a function facilitating links with loyalty points services, and the implementation of web based surveys. In November 2015, the Company added a function designed to offer services that increase in value in line with the number of repeated store visits, and at the same time, made it possible to provide for multilingual application production services targeting inbound tourists.

In this latest development, DNP will link existing functions to in-house prepaid card payment services, and has added a function facilitating application-based prepaid card balance checking.

[New Functions]

DNP provides an ASP-type service for managing prepaid balances. Apart from being able to perform prepaid card settlements and deposits via store-based POS or dedicated terminals, it is also possible to perform balance checks by accessing computers or smartphone-based member web sites.    

In this latest development, the Company will link existing o2o application production service to prepaid management service to facilitate the use of prepaid type functions on applications originally designed to promote real store visits by web site users. As a result it is possible for companies and retail outlets to strengthen measures aimed at attracting and retaining customers, such as aggregating prepaid usage data to gain an understanding of customer behavior. As a result, it will be possible to provide customers with the optimum sales promotion information, along with coupons, on their smartphones via a push-based delivery function.

Standard plan with prepaid card function usage:

Startup costs: From 3.0 million yen

Monthly usage fees: 450,000 yen plus transaction based processing fee

  • Startup costs and monthly usage fees to vary according to a scale depending on the number of users and/or members.
  • Card fees will be separately levied in case of prepaid card usage.
  • Dedicated terminal fees will be separately levied in case of dedicated terminal usage.
  • POS fees will be separately levied by relevant companies in case of POS modifications.

[Future Developments]

DNP will offer this new service mainly to companies that maintain bases in close contact with end consumers, such as distributors and service operators, including supermarkets and drug stores, and manufacturers operating directly managed stores, aiming for sales of 500 million yen in FY 2016. The Company will also capitalize on communication design know-how developed over many years to respond in a flexible manner to companies with o2o adoption and operation needs.
