Tokyo, July 22, 2022, Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) and the DNP Foundation for Cultural Promotion announce the relocation of the Kyoto ddd Gallery and the DNP Kyoto Uzumasa Cultural Heritage Gallery to COCON KARASUMA. The facility, previously located at Uzumasa, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto, will be relaunched from Saturday, July 23, 2022.

COCON KARASUMA is a commercial complex located on Karasuma Street, originally opened in 1938, and renovated in 2004 by architect Kengo Kuma.

Gallery Summary

Under the motto of "long term commitments to enterprises close to our core business," DNP and the DNP Culture Promotion Foundation promote various cultural activities centered on the field of visual arts, which maintain a deep relationship to printing. We are focused on creating new models that provide opportunities to interact with art and culture. We also propose viewing opportunities that leverage DNP's proprietary printing and information (P&I) technology and know-how, as well as the latest digital technologies, such as virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR). 

In this latest development, the relocation and relaunch of the two galleries is being conducted with the aim of discovering new value and creativity through interaction and dialogue with as many people as possible. 

Kyoto ddd Gallery 

DNP launched a graphic design gallery in Dojima, Osaka, in 1991, as a base for the DNP Group's cultural activities in the Kansai region. The facility was relocated to Uzumasa in Kyoto in 2014. Since opening, the design gallery has consistently hosted exhibitions introducing works by Kansai creators as well as overseas designs. To date, 231 special exhibitions have been held, with a cumulative total of approximately 380,000 visitors. Since 2008, the gallery has been operated by the DNP Culture Promotion Foundation. 

DNP Kyoto Uzumasa Cultural Heritage Gallery 

DNP operates a cultural heritage archiving business leveraging the technologies and know-how cultivated through our printing business, such as the digitalization and networking of text and images. We broadly introduce the efforts to the general public at the DNP Kyoto Uzumasa Cultural Heritage Gallery. It is possible to experience high-definition video content of various cultural heritages, the DNP proprietary high-definition reproduction technique, known as Denshobi, and an interactive viewing system¹ that is a joint project with art galleries and museums in Japan and overseas.
